Nanynka’s Basket of Songs

Growing up in a Czech household. Czech lullabies were often heard in my household. My mother grew up during hard times in the Czech Republic and even through oppression, she managed to hold these songs close to her heart. Luckily, she kept a book of folk songs ( Moravian, Slovak, Czech)  throughout her life, which are now in my happy hands!

Phyllis Chen and I will be collaborating to create a recording of Folk Songs & Lullabies (Nanynka’s Basket of Songs) that will incorporate the accordian, piano, music boxes, as well as the toy piano. I will also create more videos using my mother’s actual drawings, such as the video below.

I am extremely excited to work on music that awakens my slavic blood. I am glad that Phyllis and I will be able to create something that will embrace a culture that is a large part of who I am.
